A step change in metallurgical quality and efficiency
Global Radiatori manufactures aluminium radiators for domestic heating markets worldwide. From its Rogno production facility in northern Italy, the company produces more than 14 million radiators per year, exporting around 75% of production to approximately 50 countries.
When modernizing its die casting operations, the company replaced older gas-fired holding furnaces with two Westomat dosing furnaces installed in 2021. The results were clear.
— Sandro Panteghini, Global Radiatori“We immediately recognised a great step forward in metallurgical quality. At the same time, we significantly reduced energy consumption and our CO₂ emissions went to zero.”
Proven results, precision dosing
The performance of the first installations quickly influenced Global Radiatori’s investment strategy - the company deciding that all future die casting cells would use Westomat. That commitment was reaffirmed when Global Radiatori recently installed a new automated die casting cell supplied by a Westomat furnace with next-generation ProDos4.
Data from Global’s die casting machine’s PLC - specifically biscuit thickness measurements - is used to automatically adjust the aluminium quantity delivered for each shot. This enables highly accurate dosing and stable casting conditions during production.
“The ProDos4 control system is easy to use, precise, and very flexible to our needs,” says Panteghini. “Continuous innovation is important for us as a company, so it is good to see the technology we love evolving as well.”
